WHAT TO EXPECT AT JOURNEY?

At the Journey, we come together as a community to worship Jesus. There will be a time of singing, fellowship, and teaching. Pastor Shane Sander is committed to the preaching of God’s Word so we can learn how to love God more and love each other better. We’re imperfect people who aspire to become more like Jesus and live out His mission, not just on Sundays, but in the way we live our lives every day.

It won’t take you long to discover that we’re more than just a Sunday church. We are a family united by Christ that enjoys coming together for both formal and informal gatherings. We have a variety of ages at The Journey and this is something we are thankful for!

WHAT IS YOUR SUNDAY SERVICE LIKE?

Each Sunday at The Journey you’ll find a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with biblical music that mixes the new and the old, followed by a message from the Bible by Pastor Shane. Children are well-cared for in a loving, quality nursery and a Gospel centered elementary class that takes place during the sermon.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN I VISIT FOR THE FIRST TIME?

If you are visiting for the first time, we will not embarrass you, have you stand up, or ask you to give money. We know that many people want to check out the church and “be anonymous” for awhile—and that’s fine with us! Come in, enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, and see if this is the church for you.

WHAT DO I WEAR TO ATTEND YOUR SERVICE?

You will find that the attire at The Journey on Sunday morning ranges from very casual to business casual. Our focus is coming together to worship God and grow in Him.

DO YOU HAVE A MIDWEEK SERVICE?

During the school year, we have a study at the church on Wednesday nights at 6:30. We take turn bringing snacks and dessert. There is nursery available, as well as an elementary class. Youth and adults are together for the teaching and then after the teaching, we break up into small groups to discuss the teaching and appropriate application to our lives.

WHAT ABOUT MY CHILDREN?

At The Journey your children are a top priority. Our nursery is clean, safe, and staffed with loving workers for infants up to 4 years old. Children ages 5 through 5th grade are offered age appropriate ministry every Sunday morning during Kids Church and Wednesday evenings.

HOW CAN I MEET OTHERS AND GET CONNECTED?

There are many ways to get involved. In addition to Sunday Service, we offer Wednesday evening activities (Sept-May), monthly Men’s study, monthly women’s study, and various get-togethers throughout the year. Through times with small groups on Wednesday nights, you can build friendships, learn more about the life of our church, and have the opportunity to grow in your faith.

Shane Sander

Lead Pastor

Shane Sander, lead pastor, at Journey Christian Fellowship in Missoula, Montana

Pastor Shane grew up in Western Montana and graduated from Superior High School in 1994. He attended George Fox University and obtained a degree in Christian Ministries. From there, he taught high school Bible for 8 years at North County Christian School in Atascadero, California. In 2006, he was called to serve as the Director of Family Ministries at Cornerstone Community Church, also located in Atascadero. During that time, he continued to invest in the school through serving on the board and continuing to coach varsity football. In 2009, the Lord called him to attend The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Shane and his family moved across the country to Louisville, Kentucky in August of 2009. During his time there, he served as the Associate Pastor at Morningside Baptist Church. In May of 2012, Shane graduated with his Mdiv. in the School of Theology. Shane and his wife have a heart for the people of the West and so they moved to Montana directly after graduation. In July, the Lord called Shane to serve as the pastor here at The Journey. Shane and his wife Jessica have six daughters.

Shane has a passion for teaching the Bible, discipling people, living life with people, and seeing people grow in their walk with the Lord. He unashamedly believes the Bible is the inerrant and authoritative Word of God and therefore he regularly teaches verse by verse through the Scriptures. He also firmly believes that salvation is found in Jesus Christ and nowhere else. Jesus stated in John 14:6, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” Salvation is obtained through believing in the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 16:31).

Shane enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, or pretty much anything outdoors! He also enjoys a good movie now and again, as well as a good book.
